Allmendinger made his start in car racing in karts, winning two International Kart Federation Grand National championships. He went on to enter the Barber Dodge Pro Series, capturing six race wins, Rookie-of-the-Year honors and the championship. Not long after, he scored eight victories to win the Toyota Atlantic championship, at 21 becoming the second-youngest driver ever to achieve that, and paving his way to fame and greater success; his net worth began to grow.

Allmendinger made it to the Champ Car World Series with his RuSport team in 2004, capturing third place and earning the Roshfrans Rookie-of-the-Year award, as the first American-born driver to achieve so since 1991. He remained in Champ Car for another two years, capturing six top-five finishes in 2005, and five wins and a runner-up position for the series’ championship in 2006. Later that year he was released by RuSport and went on to join Forsythe Championship Racing, scoring three consecutive wins and finishing second in the championship standings. In 2006 he was offered a NASCAR Cup Series ride for the 2007 campaign by Red Bull Racing, signing a lucrative deal that boosted his net worth.
